Let the story unfold.

E.D.D.i works best on a desktop or laptop computer. We recommend at least 8 GB of RAM. Older phones and tablets may still work, but narration could be slower or occasionally pause.
Thousands of wonderful books can be read for free. Many older works are in the public domain, which usually means their copyright has expired. Others are shared with the copyright holder’s permission. You can legally download and enjoy books that are free to use in your country.
A small note: copyright rules vary between countries, and a new translation or edition may have its own copyright. Check the information on each book’s download page. These are independent websites; EPub Reader does not host their books.

You can also listen to legally purchased DRM-free EPUB books, including modern titles that are still under copyright, for your own personal use where permitted by the book's licence and applicable law.
Books you open here are kept in your browser on your device, not uploaded to a public library or shared with other readers. Some ebooks have digital rights management (DRM), which this app cannot unlock. Please respect copyright and the terms under which you obtained your books.

Your books and reading progress are saved in this browser on this device. They do not automatically sync with other devices.

Choose a book or document from your device. E.D.D.i can read EPUB, PDF, Word (.docx), text, Markdown, web page (.html), RTF, ODT and FB2 files. PDFs need real text, so scanned pages won't work.
Choose a voice and listen to a little story before deciding who you'd like to read your book. The first sample may take a moment to prepare.
As the evening light faded, the little bookshop at the end of the lane began to glow. Somewhere between its shelves, a forgotten story waited patiently for someone to open the first page.
Choose a narrator, then press Play sample.
This page is for EPUB books. An EPUB is a proper ebook file. The cover, the author and the chapters are built into it, so E.D.D.i can open it just as the author set it out, and it can be moved to another device with your place in it.
Other documents (PDF, Word, text and so on) are just pages of writing. E.D.D.i can still read them aloud and keep them in My Library, but it has to guess where the chapters are, and they cannot be moved on this page. To read one on another device, upload it there too.
Moving to another phone, tablet or computer? Take your book and your place in it with you. No account needed.
Open your book, then press Save Book & Progress. Choose where to save it, such as iCloud Drive, Dropbox or your Downloads folder. The filename includes the date and time, so you can easily find your latest copy.
Open E.D.D.i., press Load Book & Progress, and choose the file you saved. Your book opens where you left off.
Tip: Send the saved file to your other device or keep it in a shared folder.
Copyright: Only transfer books you are legally allowed to copy, even if you bought them.
This smaller file saves only your reading place, not the book. The same EPUB must already be on your other device.
Your reading place is also saved automatically on this device.
